I had earmarked this summer down as for working on my short game and just playing rather than concentrating on my swing. However right now I'm motivated to change/work on my swing to get it more inside to out in the hope that that will solve my shank issue.
I do think pitching practice is a way to both work at my short game and work at my swing, doing three quarter swings, half swings and part swings, because 100 - 20 yards in is where I need to practice my game anyway.
Real lack of local short game facilities now that the Pitch n' Putt is not a nice place to practice also becomes an issue.
If I still had that Pitch n' Putt facility, I could work on my swing mechanics in conjunction with my pitching game. I will revisit the place after the rain stops and see if there are any signs of it returning to life. As it is now your hitting a ball into a dirt circle instead of a green and one that is almost the hardness of a cricket wicket! Then losing sight of your ball as it bounces off into the 8 inch high rough.
The only other option is the golf club's practice area, which really is just a triangle of steeply uphill grass where you can't work out your yardages, only work on your technique.
I guess I will have to just suck it up and use one or the other because I believe working on pitch shots will eventually help all my game including my shank.
