Well I got taken apart last night in my first ever match play event. I lost the match by halving the 13th Hole for a boggy 5.
We were both off 25 handicap's. I had 6 pars in 13 holes and won just one hole, played about as good as I could do! Out in 45 despite twice out of bounds off the tee on that nine holes.
It was an object lesson in scoring, I outdrove the guy by miles, but every time he got to the 150 marker I knew he would be in the hole in three shots. He just played a stormer, every time I got par he halved, he played like a 10 handicap! It was actually a pleasure to watch him play so well, I did not mind losing because I played my best golf and still got slaughtered.
But what it really drove home was how important a strong short game is, he pitched, chipped and putted just fantastically, while chipping/short pitches were my downfall.
If you had put my long game with his short game then we would have had some damn good scoring combination despite my two lose drives.
My stats especially GIR were the best for a long time:
46% of GIR (My average is 22%)
54% FW's hit (My average is 46.4%),
1.77 putts per hole (My average is 2.00)
2.00 putts per GIR, (My average is 2.28)
And I made my first ever up and down from a bunker!!!
Mx25's back in the bag :D
