'A 30 something Beginners golf journey'

Saturday in the sunshine.

Just back from a long enjoyable day at the golf course in brilliant sunshine. I'm probably going to be lobster red tomorrow despite the sun cream.

I began this morning on the practice ground with my video camera and chipping/pitching I wanted to get a down the line shot of my shanking and succeeded very quickly.

After capturing some swings on memory card I set off down the 8th which was deserted and close to where I was practicing. Focusing on swinging from the inside I found that my 3 wood was going great with some nice draws. The irons were a bit hit and miss and distance was certainly down with the longer and mid irons.

But no shanks.

I played OK and got back to the club house for some liquid refreshment and a spot of putting while I waited for my lunch.

After that I went to the net and filmed some more swings with a wedge, and an 8 iron before wandering towards the first tee.

As I was walking there I met Harry the assistant pro and we decided to play a few holes. Harry helped me a lot, we talked about course management, my grip, ball position and importantly my aiming. Then onto little pitch shots where he really wanted me to minimise my leg movement and get the club releasing through the ball. That seamed to have a good effect so I will be pursuing it in future practice. I almost have myself convinced that excess leg movement is also a component of my issue.

Anyhow it was a great fun day, especially for my driving, out of 17 holes that I used the 3 wood to tee off with only one shot would have had me in real trouble. I did not keep stats, but I hit a lot of fairways.

I have not looked at the video in detail yet, maybe I will be able to post it tomorrow.
